Benjamin Rigby has been cast to star in 'Prometheus' sequel 'Alien: Covenant' alongside its returning star Michael Fassbender

Benjamin Rigby is to star in 'Alien: Covenant' alongside Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterson and Danny McBride.

With director Ridley Scott's cameras rolling imminently, 'Alien: Covenant' is still finding new cast members but Benjamin is the latest star to be announced in the film - the sequel to 'Prometheus'.

However, it is not yet known who he will play as the plot in the Fox's sequel remains a mystery.

'Prometheus' was set about 30 years prior to the events in Ridley's 1979 movie 'Alien.' The movie, which generated more than $400 million worldwide, was centred on a group of scientists aboard the spaceship Prometheus investigating the remains of an advanced civilization that was believed to have created human life.

Michael Fassbender is the only confirmed returning cast member from 'Prometheus' and it remains to be seen how this new film connects with Scott's last trip to the 'Alien' universe and how it'll link forward through to the planned two sequels in the franchise.

Benjamin joins Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smolett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez and, most intriguingly, Danny McBride.

Also reportedly aboard, albeit behind the scenes, Composer Harry Gregson-Williams, who has provided the music for Scott's last few movies.

Australian actor Benjamin doesn't have much work to his name yet, bar a handful of short films and one low-budget post-apocalyptic Australian horror movie, last year's 'Plague'.

On Australian TV he has starred in 'The Secret River', 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries' and 'Neighbours, in which he played David Sheridan.

'Alien: Covenant' is scheduled for release in October 2017.

The spaceship Covenant ends up on an unknown planet littered with little egg things, which can’t be good. The latest in the franchise is basically an excuse for Scott’s fantastic visuals and a series of more or less ingenious variations on grisly death, although some will enjoy the spectacle of Fassbender kissing himself.
