'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' actor Diego Luna is in conversations to join Ellen Page in 'Flatliners' remake
Diego Luna is in talks to star in 'Flatliners'.
The 36-year-old actor is negotiating with movie bosses to play one of a group of medical students who push the boundaries of their expertise, by putting themselves through near-death experiences, the rebooted film.
Ellen Page, 29, has already been cast in the Sony remake which was originally released in 1990 and starred Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt as the doomed trainee doctors who put themselves through surreal and mental anguish with a series of experiments.
Niels Arden Oplev is directing the new take on the story and 'Source Code' screenwriter Ben Ripley has adapted the screenplay, and has cranked up the ill-advised experiments to include a modern scientific take, with the intend intends to shake-up the cast with more women included this time.
Meanwhile, the Mexican actor will be seen next in 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' set for release in December.
He recently spoke about his career choices and said he has never been afraid to "take risks" in order to stand out.
Diego - whose other credits include 2013 science fiction thriller 'Elysium' and 2014 civil rights biopic 'Cesar Chavez' - told Variety: "I think you have to leave fear behind. Take risks. Whatever sounds crazy, whatever sounds a little uncomfortable is good. And no regrets, also. It doesn't matter if you have good or bad experiences, everything shapes you, and everything has potential to make you grow, if you find the way to use it. "
Filming for 'Flatliners' is set to begin in July 2016.
