I am the Greatest: Muhammad Ali at the O2
New exhibition to celebrate the life of the legendary heavyweight boxer
Boxers may be notorious for their hyperbolic self-aggrandisement but few people can disagree with Muhammad Ali's famous proclamation: 'I am the greatest!'
That quote lends itself neatly to the title of a new exhibition at London's O2 from March until August which tells the story of Ali's life, from humble beginnings in Kentucky (as the 'Louisville Lip') to his position as one of the 20th century's greatest sportsmen, not to mention campaigner for religious freedom and racial justice, and all-round icon.
On view will be over 100 artifacts, including unseen footage, photographs and a full-size boxing ring which will showcase the boxer's revolutionary techniques. Memorabilia on show includes worn headgear inscribed to Sylvester Stallone, torches and participation medals from the 1960 Rome Olympics, and a pair of gold boxing gloves signed by Ali as given to Elvis Presley in 1973.
I Am The Greatest: Muhammad Ali is on display at the O2, London from Fri 4 Mar to Wed 31 Aug. Pre-sale tickets to buy from Thu 28 Jan.
