Hollywood icon Harrison Ford has admitted he admires the never-ending enthusiasm of 'Stars Wars' fans.

The 73-year-old actor - who has reprised the role of Han Solo for the much-anticipated new movie, 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' - has revealed he feels "proud" of the J.J. Abrams-directed film and feels touched by the support of fans.

Speaking at the European premiere of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' in London's Leicester Square last night (16.12.15), he told the BBC: "I'm glad people are interested. It becomes a part of people's lives and I really appreciate that they have such an intense, emotional interest in these films. It means a lot to me."

He said too, that the new movie is a "worthy" effort in comparison to the other films in the franchise.

In a message directed at fans, Harrison said: "I hope they enjoy the movie. It's a worthy effort. I'm very proud of it."

Elsewhere at the premiere, 'Star Wars' creator George Lucas spoke about passing on directing responsibilities to J.J. Abrams for the latest installment in the money-spinning series.

He joked: "I felt that I had to pass it on before I passed on."

The duo were joined at the star-studded event by the likes of Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong'o, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, as well as robots BB-8, C-3PO and R2D2.
