Idris Elba feels like Batman in Luther
Idris Elba has compared his character in 'Luther' to Batman and London to the creepy Gotham City.
Idris Elba feels like "Batman" when he's filming 'Luther'.
The 43-year-old actor stars as DCI John Luther in the BBC One crime drama and has revealed he sees his character's coat as Batman sees his cape and even compared London to Gotham City.
Speaking at a screening of the upcoming fourth series of the show at London's Picturehouse Piccadilly, he said: "The coat was my idea. When I put the coat on I feel like Luther. it's the costume. It's the Batman outfit.
"London is shot so beautifully this series. You feel like you are in a city that has a lot of crime."
'Luther' has been incredibly successful for the BBC, who have sold the show to 180 different countries.
Speaking about it's return, Idris explained: "We came back because we have an audience that's loyal and demanding and they were not satisfied with the ending of the last one."
Series one of 'Luther' featured six episodes while two and three had four, and the latest instalment - which will feature a cannibal serial killer - has just two episodes.
Idris added: "We have never stuck to any rules on 'Luther' and have done six-parters and four-parters. There's no reason why we can't do another six-parter."
'Luther' returns to BBC One this December.
