Rufus Sewell and Jenna Coleman have been cast in a new ITV drama depicting the life of Britain's Queen Victoria.
Rufus Sewell has been cast alongside Jenna Coleman in 'Victoria'
The BAFTA-nominated actor will play Prime Minister Lord Melbourne, who was in power when Britain's Queen Victoria was first elected to the throne and became a popular source of gossip that threatened to destabilise the British Government, alongside Coleman as the former monarch.
The eight-part drama follows Queen Victoria's 63 years as Queen from her accession to the throne at just 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.
Jenna and Rufus are joined by a star-studded cast including 'Being Humans' actor Paul Rhys, who stars as Sir John Conroy, the controller of the Duchess of Kent's household, 'Spooks' Peter Firth and 'No Place to Go' actress Catherine Flemming as the Duchess of Kent, Queen Victoria's mother.
The drama is being made by the producers of 'Poldark' and is written by acclaimed wordsmith Daisy Goodwin.
The series will be introduced with a 90-minute episode, followed by 7 one-hour episodes.
Filming for the show will take place in several locations in the north of England and will start this month.
The first picture of Jenna Coleman as Queen Victoria has also been released by ITV and sees her wearing a traditional Victorian dress.
