Watch the teaser for the new X-Files series

X-Philes rejoice as the trailer for the new series has been revealed

Following an ultra-teaser trailer in July, we finally have something with a bit more meat (and dialogue) to chew on for the forthcoming return of The X-Files to television.

It's been over seven years since FBI agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) last shared the screen (in The X-Files: I Want to Believe) and much has changed since then. The nfirst full trailer ushers in recent technological advances, including smartphones and drones.

There's also vintage desert footage (possibly Roswell?), an explosion and numerous dingy, torch-lit escapades. It's all capped off with what seems to be the Smoking Man failing to adequately tip the ash from a burning cigarette, despite the fact he was apparently killed by a rocket in season 9. After the last film refused to engage meaningfully with the series' mythology, it look like The X-Files is finally returning to its grand unifying conspiracy.

New cast members include Community's Joel McHale and Flight of the Conchords' Rhys Darby.

The X-Files returns (in the US) on 24 Jan, with UK dates to be confirmed.
