The Rolling Stones are one of the biggest bands the world has ever seen. New documentary Keith Richards: Under the Influence offers a portrait of the great guitarist taking in his life, influences and music. 'If there’s a Mount Rushmore of rock’n’roll, Keith’s face is surely on it. He has always represented the soul of rock music, for all of the light and dark shades that implies,' explains director filmmaker Morgan Neville (who won an Oscar for Twenty Feet From Stardom). 'To my relief, Keith Richards turned out to be a real man—full of humour, knowledge and wisdom. That’s the real Keith we’ve worked to capture in our film and I’m honoured to bring it to a global audience via Netflix.'

And it's a strong month for music docs. Nas’ iconic album Illmatic turned 20 last year. It appeared with a lot of hype surrounding it back in 1994, and tells the story of life growing up in the Queensbridge projects, New York. The documentary, Nas: Time is Illmatic appears on Netflix in early September and it’s a powerful and illuminating examination of his debut album. As Nas reflects on the people and places that played a part in shaping his masterpiece the realisation of how his big break in rap music changed his life delivers a profound conclusion.

The Two Jakes is the last film Jack Nicholson directed to date and it is also the sequel to Roman Polanski’s Chinatown which was originally supposed to form a trilogy. Set 11 years after the events of Polanski’s film it stars Nicholson and Harvey Keitel as each of the Jakes. It took years to come to fruition after a particularly troubled production which saw a change of director, lead actor and some badly bruised egos. On its release in 1990 Roger Ebert described it as a film ‘about the values that people have, and about the things that mean more to them than life and freedom.’
