'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes has hinted that there is a strong possibility the show will come back as a movie

Julian Fellowes has hinted that a 'Downton Abbey' movie could be a possibility.

The creator of the ITV show insisted that its upcoming Christmas special will be the final TV episode of the period drama but he thinks it could have "some afterlife".

He said: "It wouldn't surprise me if it had some afterlife because it's been such a strong force. But it's definitely finished on television. That's it.

"I think it's right to stop when people are sorry and not when people are relieved."

And if it does become a movie, Julian wants to be involved, explaining: "I'm not sure I could trust my baby to another nurse!"

Producer Gareth Neame recently said making the show into a feature film would be a "wonderful thing".

However, while he confirmed making a film is a prospect, he admitted they "don't have a script or plan as of yet".

He said: "We might - it's something we've talked about," he said. "I think a 'Downton' movie would be a wonderful thing. But we don't have a script or a plan as of yet."
