Better Call Saul

The Oscars for the small screen are fast approaching, and we thought we'd find out where to watch the 2015 Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series in the UK. Whether you opt for Mad Men or Orange is the New Black (or all seven), you can now binge-watch yourself silly. Also check out where you can watch the best comedy series. Enjoy!

Better Call Saul

What is it?
The spin-off from the incredibly popular Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul takes a look at Saul Goodman six years before he starts to represent Albuquerque’s most notorious criminal. He’s just a small-town attorney named Jimmy McGill, who’s trying to make a name for himself.
Who do I know in it?
Well it’s a prequel to Breaking Bad, so you can probably guess that the creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould were heavily involved in that. Gilligan actually created the Walter White saga as well. Bob Odenkirk has also reprised his role as Saul for the show.
How many series are there?
One, but a second is due to be released in 2016.
Where can I watch it?
This is a Netflix original, so you can watch every episode on the streaming service’s website.

Downton Abbey

What is it?
This British period drama follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants, in their grand Edwardian house. [editor: Don't pretend you don't know]
Who do I know in it?
Hugh Bonneville, who starred in the popular family film Paddington, plays the gentleman of the house, and it also features distinguished actress Dame Maggie Smith as his mother Violet Crawley.
How many series are there?
Five, with the final sixth series due to air in November.
Where can I watch it?
Series 1–4 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Instant Video. Season 5 episodes are also available but will cost you per episode or per series, with Itunes also offering episodes on this basis.

Game of Thrones

What is it?
The fantasy series depicts the violent dynastic struggles of the realm’s nobles for control of the Iron Throne.
Who do I know in it?
Everyone you might have known has probably already been killed off. Sorry... that’s kind of GoT’s thing.
How many series are there?
There’s five, and last season’s finale has left fans gasping for the from the as yet unreleased Winds of Winter installment.
Where can I watch it?
Series 1 is currently available to stream on Now TV. You can also watch series 1–5 on Google Play, iTunes or Amazon, but you have to pay per episode or per series.

Homeland

What is it?
An American political thriller featuring Carrie Matthews, a CIA agent with Bipolar disorder, who becomes suspicious of Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody when he returns home after being missing for eight years.
Who do I know in it?
Claire Danes, star of Stardust and Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet, plays Carrie. It was also created by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, who worked on 24.
How many series are there?
Four, and the fifth is due for release in October.
Where can I watch it?
Series 1–3 are on Netflix. Series 4 can be found on Amazon, iTunes and Google, but you’ll have pay per episode or per series.

Mad Men

What is it?
A retro show, detailing the life of Don Draper, who is struggling to stay on top in the high-pressure world of Madison Avenue advertising firms.
Who do I know in it?
It was created by Michael Weiner, who worked on The Sopranos previously. Jon Hamm stars as Draper, and he has also had roles in a number of other shows, including fellow Emmy nominee Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
How many series are there?
Seven (the seventh is in two parts), and the last series was the final, leaving Draper devotees at a loss when it finished in May.
Where can I watch it?
Series 1–7a are available to watch on Now TV and Sky On Demand. Series 1–5 can also be streamed from Amazon Prime.

House of Cards

What is it?
An American political drama focusing on the ruthless politician Frank Underwood and his equally ruthless wife, Claire.
Who do I know in it?
Kevin Spacey, star of American Beauty and The Usual Suspects, plays Frank, while Robin Wright, who is well-known for her role as Buttercup in The Princess Bride, plays Claire.
How many series are there?
There are three, but fans are already speculating about what will happen in the fourth.
Where can I watch it?
As another Netflix original, those keen to witness the manipulation techniques of the Underwoods can do so, with every episode available to those with a subscription.

Orange is the New Black

What is it?
Set in a female prison, the show focuses on Piper Chapman, who must serve a sentence for a drug crime committed long ago. However, the real drama is in the dynamics and relationships between the inmates, and the flashbacks that provide insight into their lives.
Who do I know in it?
It was created by Jenji Kohan, who is also known for her work on Weeds. In terms of actors, Natasha Lyonne and Jason Biggs of the American Pie franchise both feature. As does Laura Prepon, who played Donna in That 70s Show.
How many series are there?
Three, with the fourth due to be released sometime in 2016.
Where can I watch it?
OITNB is another Netflix original (the streaming service is doing well this year), so all episodes can be found on the Netflix website.
