Chris Evans has strongly hinted that Richard Bacon will join him as co-host on 'Top Gear' and has also opened up the application process to the general public.

Chris Evans has hinted that Richard Bacon could be set to join him on 'Top Gear'.

The 49-year-old radio DJ has taken over the top spot from Jeremy Clarkson after he was axed from the show for punching a producer and he's now on the hunt for two more presenters and revealed yesterday that Bacon - who previously hosted 'Blue Peter' - is in the running.

Referring to Richard dropping him off at work yesterday (18.06.15), Chris said: "They were so focused (on me) they didn't see the gentleman who gave me a lift to work."

However, Bacon is currently busy working with ITV as the host of new six-part game show 'Eternal Glory', where eight sporting legends are given a set of challenges.

Meanwhile, bookmakers have placed odds on a number of well known faces that could be set to take over from Clarkson's former colleagues Richard Hammond and James May as co-presenters.

While Jodie Kidd, Guy Martin and Suzi Perry remain favourites at 3/1, Sky's Formula 1 presenter Natalie Pinkham has also joined the race with equal odds.

Other names less likely to audition for the role include Prince Harry at 250/1, disgraced former FIFA boss Sepp Blatter at 1000/1 and singer James Blunt at 25/1.
