Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is to star and co-produce new sci-fi comedy 'Alpha Squad Seven'
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has clinched a deal to star in 'Alpha Squad Seven'.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the 43-year-old actor is to be the main star in the sci-fi comedy, which his own production couple helped develop.
DreamWorks won a bidding battle with Paramount to make a deal for the new film and were responsible for the title.
As well as starring, Johnson will also take on co-producing duties as a part of his own company 7 Bucks Productions, alongside FlynnPictureCo, which is headed up by Beau Flynn.
Flynn, and Johnson have previously worked together on a sci-fi flick, 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island', and other films including, 'Hercules' and 'San Andreas'.
As for writing, legendary comic writers Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer took on the job and also pitched the film to several big time companies, including Columbia and Universal, before securing the deal. There has been no mention of who else will star in the film and no details have been given regarding the plot.
Meanwhile, Johnson is busy shooting action film 'Central Intelligence' and will provide his voice to Disney animation, 'Moana' which will be released in 2017.
