'Avengers: Age of Ultron' star Scarlett Johansson was never a fan of superheroes when she was young

Scarlett Johansson disliked superheroes as a child.

The 30-year-old actress has had starring roles in the 'Iron Man', 'Captain America' and 'The Avengers' movies as Black Widow, but admitted she had no interest in the Marvel stories as a youngster and never touched a comic book.

She confessed: "Superheroes weren't my thing growing up. I watched movies and read a lot but I never read comics."

However, the 'Chef' star admitted she has grown to love the Marvel stories and enjoys acting in the films because she has been able to put her own twist on the superhero character.

She continued: "What makes a character interesting to play is if they are grounded in something substantial and I've been fortunate to be able to build Black Widow from the beginning. This time I had the opportunity to peel away some of the layers I had been strategically placing all these years."

And the mother-of-one - who is currently filming 'Captain America: Civil War', due next year, with Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. - added she is always amazed by fans of the films because they are so passionate.

She told Stylist magazine: "Marvel super-fans are a whole other level. I understand the universe we've created but it's so expansive; this Marvel stuff is crazy."

Ultron, an artificial intelligence created by Tony Stark (Downey Jr) to keep the peace, goes rogue and decides to kill off the Avengers. Barely logical but impressively entertaining superhero fun; Johansson and Olsen are central to the action and Whedon's script is strong, snappy and irreverent, but it doesn't have much…
