The Teenagers - Reality Check

From Franz Ferdinand’s ‘Do You Want To’ to ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ via ‘Dirrty’, savvy pop stars have always known that the best music is utterly filthy. On this basis, Parisian trio The Teenagers have made a masterpiece with Reality Check, as the infectious debut is ridden with lewd lyrics and sordid sounds from opener ‘Homecoming’ onwards.
Like a synth-tinged take on Grease’s ‘Summer Nights’, this humorous ode to a holiday romance paves the way for charming monologues in broken English, witty references to 80s films and television and a whole load of alcohol-soaked tales that would make your elders blush, driven by sweeping strings, blissful melodies, insistent beats and scratchy riffs. Prepare to get very hot under the collar indeed.
