Philip Glenister thinks 'Top Gear' is perfect the way it is.

The 'Life on Mars' star is reportedly in the running to replace Jeremy Clarkson as the main host of the show after the controversial presenter was sacked for attacking a producer and leaving him with a split lip.

And while the BBC are currently deciding on how best to bring the motoring show back, Philip doesn't think they should do anything drastic.

He said: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

"I have been on it before in the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car slot. It rained when I did it so I had a 'w' next to my name for wet - or w****r."

The 52-year-old actor and self-confessed car fanatic is currently starring in the second series of his own motor show, 'For the Love of Cars' on Channel 4 but insists he's well aware it will never be as successful as the long-running series, which also features Richard Hammond and James May as presenters.

He told The Sun newspaper: "To make a show that is trying to compete against 'Top Gear', that is foolish. Ours is our own little beast."
