Nicki Minaj heads to the Hydro with the Pinkprint tour
Bringing the boom badoom boom bass back to Glasgow a few months after the MTV EMAs
Returning to the same spot where she helped host the MTV EMAs back in November, the cheeky-aggro-dollybird queen of rap – and proud advocate of the big booty – Nicki Minaj returns to the Hydro, this time with her Pinkprint tour.
An occasionally bordering-on-genius rapper, slightly waylaid by very odd and sometimes disappointing production choices, and regularly overshadowed by her spectacular outfits, Minaj is a funny one indeed.
Like a lot of the best pop acts, she’s a bubblegum mix of confounding messages and straight-up good fun. While it’s a pleasure to listen to her bouncy beats and often confrontational reclaiming / owning of the concept of hotness, like a few of her contemporaries and pals (Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Skylar Grey all featured on last year’s album Pinkprint), some of her sexual politics could probably do with some unravelling …
That said, the Anaconda-loving artist most definitely knows how to put on a giant stadium show, and as the last stop on her European tour, which she’s touting as ‘her biggest and best tour yet’, Glasgow should probably brace itself for a big, brashy, probably brilliant pop attack. If you can’t wait til the show, in the meantime, treat yourself to a visit to the very entertaining Facebook page, Nicki Minaj Quotes.
