David Gandy didn't think he was a good enough actor for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.

The British model confirmed he was approached to play Christian Grey - a role which went to Jamie Dornan - in the adaptation of E.L. James' raunchy novel but chose not to audition as he felt it was too big a part.

He said: "I was sent the script but didn't go along.

"I know there are a lot of guys who really wanted that role, and I love the idea of a challenge, but you have to be a very good actor to pull off that role. It's a big, big part."

While he didn't want the 'Fifty Shades' role, the 35-year-old hunk would like to venture into acting at some point.

He said: "I've been offered parts other guys would say yes to, but I just didn't fancy them.

"But I've read a couple of scripts I love, and if the right team came along I'd love to see them made."

Last year, David appeared in Jennifer Lopez's music video for 'First Love' and says the experience was "a real laugh".

He added to Red magazine: "It was never part of a plan to do a music video, but I knew her. She called me up and asked me personally."

  • Directed by: Sam Taylor-Johnson
  • Cast: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Jennifer Ehle
  • UK release: 13 February 2015

Despite its troubling gender politics and distinct lack of plot, the likeable Johnson brings nuance and charm to a paper-thin character; Dornan manages to offer a hint of humanity; and given the many constraints, this sleek, fairly trim and occasionally sensual adaptation is the best imaginable outcome.
