Broadchurch commissioned for third series
'Broadhcurch' has been commissioned for a third series with David Tennant and Olivia Coleman confirmed to reprise their roles
'Broadchurch' is to return for a third series.
David Tennant and Olivia Coleman are to reprise their roles as Detective Inspector Alec Hardy and Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller respectively following the conclusion of the second series of the ITV drama last night (23.02.15).
Creator and writer Chris Chibnall said: "We've been overwhelmed that nine million people every week have continued to join us on the twists and turns of 'Broadchurch'. This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time and I'm thrilled to be writing these characters once again."
Following Joe Miller's (Matthew Gravelle) arrest for the murder of Danny Latimer at the end of the first series, the character was found not guilty following his trial in the series two finale and viewers will now have to wait until the third series to find out whether he follows his wife Ellie's advice to leave the Dorset town and never come back.
ITV's director of drama Steve November and controller of drama Victoria Fea have commissioned the third series with Chibnall and Jane Featherstone set to return as executive producers.
November said: "Chris Chibnall knows exactly how to keep viewers guessing and I'm delighted that he is going to take the story onto the next stage."
