New Dr Seuss book What Pet Should I Get? discovered

Ned McDodd, Mayor of Whoville, from Horton Hears a Who!

Random House Children's Books has announced that it is to publish a newly-discovered Dr Seuss book in July.

The manuscript for What Pet Should I Get? was discovered by Seuss' wife Audrey Geisel as she was remodelling her home and tells the story of a young child who is excited about choosing a pet, also featuring sibling characters that first appeared in One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

Seuss died 24 years ago after publishing his final book Oh, The Places You'll Go!. An evergreen children's favourite, loved for his use of rhyme and fantastical characters, among his 46 already-published titles are Green Eggs and Ham and Fox in Socks as well as books-turned movies Horton Hears a Who!, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat.

As well as this new title, there was also enough material found to put together two new titles, which Random House plans to publish in the future.

Out 28 July, published by Random House Children's Books
