Jon Culshaw to star in puppet sketch show Newzoids
ITV has commissioned a new topical puppet sketch show called 'Newzoids', starring Jon Culshaw and Debra Stephenson
Jon Culshaw is to star in a new topical puppet sketch show.
The 46-year-old impressionist - who is best known for his starring role in BBC Two comedy 'Dead Ringers' - will play a leading role in new ITV programme 'Newzoids', which promises to tackle the week's news events using "state of the art animation".
Elaine Bedell, the director of entertainment and comedy for the broadcaster, explained: "ITV has a rich history of playing popular satirical comedy in peak time on its main channel, and it seemed a good time to revive it this year.
"We are pleased to be adding to our growing comedy portfolio with this funny and biting look at the world of politics and celebrity."
The six-episode series - which will also star impressionist Debra Stephenson - will feature some of the world's most recognisable faces in puppet form, including Beyoncé, Harry Styles and British prime minister David Cameron, as well as Simon Cowell, And & Dec and Wayne Rooney.
An ITV teaser said the show's "groundbreaking mixture of low-tech traditional puppetry and state of the art animation puts a satirical and surreal spin on the stories and celebrities we read about every day".
