Jamie Dornan found it "hard" watching '50 Shades of Grey' for the first time.

The 32-year-old actor - who has a 14-month-old daughter, Dulcie, with his musician wife Amelia Warner - struggled to enjoy the movie, which is based of E.L James' erotic novel of the same name, as he found himself "picking apart" both his performance and the picture.

He explained: "I mean, there's so much going on for the first time, picking apart not only your performance but the film itself.

"It's hard to watch it for the first time and enjoy it for what it is."

'The Fall' star - who plays lead character, kinky businessman Christian Grey in the film, opposite Dakota Johnson - added he is in no rush to see the movie again and will be jetting off with his wife and baby daughter when it premieres this Valentine's Day (14.02.15).

When asked how he and Amelia are going to celebrate, he told The Sunday Times newspaper's Culture magazine: 'We don't usually make a big meal out of Valentine's Day, my wife and I. We won't be going to see the film."

  • Directed by: Sam Taylor-Johnson
  • Cast: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Jennifer Ehle
  • UK release: 13 February 2015

Despite its troubling gender politics and distinct lack of plot, the likeable Johnson brings nuance and charm to a paper-thin character; Dornan manages to offer a hint of humanity; and given the many constraints, this sleek, fairly trim and occasionally sensual adaptation is the best imaginable outcome.
