Simon Pegg will write 'Star Trek 3' with 'Dark Blue' creator Doug Jung, it has been revealed
Simon Pegg is to co-write 'Star Trek 3'.
The 44-year-old actor - who plays Scotty in the sci-fi series - will work with 'Dark Blue' creator Doug Jung on the story for the latest installment in the franchise, Deadline reports.
The British actor has previously penned his movies 'Shaun of the Dead', 'Hot Fuzz', 'The World's End' and 'Run Fatboy Run'.
His appointment as writer on the movie - which is scheduled for release on July 8, 2016 - comes shortly after it was confirmed that Justin Lin is to direct 'Star Trek 3'.
The 'Fast & Furious' director was chosen to replace Roberto Orci, who relinquished the role but opted to stay on as a producer of the film.
A number of high-profile directors were linked to the coveted role, including Morten Tyldum of 'The Imitation Game', but Lin was the only person to have been offered the job.
The move came after Lin's planned 'Bourne Legacy' sequel starring Jeremy Renner was delayed to allow Matt Damon to return to the Bourne franchise.
And it's been confirmed he'll turn his attentions to 'Star Trek' once he has finished working on season two of the US crime drama series 'True Detective'.
Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto are all expected to join Pegg in returning to the series.
