Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara are both keen to appear in the first stand-alone 'Star Wars' movie, which is set for release in December 2016
Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara are both testing for the female lead in the first stand-alone 'Star Wars' movie.
Although plot and character details of the film remain a closely-guarded secret, Maslany - the Canadian actress who stars in BBC America's 'Orphan Black' - is testing for the sought-after part, while 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' star Mara is set to test later this week.
What's more, Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones is said to be on the wanted list, though her involvement with the film could be halted by scheduling issues with 'Inferno', the 'Da Vinci Code' sequel.
Testing for the movie took place in the UK in December, but has now switched to the US, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
There are currently two stand-alone 'Star Wars' movies in development, the first of which is seeking writers after Garry Whitta completed a first draft and then left the project.
The movie is being directed by Gareth Edwards and is set for release in December 2016.
Before then, however, the much-anticipated 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' - which stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill - will be released on December 18, 2015.
