Jim Carrey is in talks to star in a new comedy called 'Deep Cover'.

Following the success of 'Dumb and Dumber To' - which has already earned $128 million worldwide - the 52-year-old actor is in talks to appear in the movie which has been scripted by Johnny Rosenthal.

The film is being created by Red Granite Pictures - which recently released his 'Dumb and Dumber' sequel as well as 2013's Oscar-nominated 'The Wolf Of Wall Street' - meaning the star may continue his relationship with the production company following his recent success.

If talks are successful, the 'Bruce Almighty' actor will also produce the comedy alongside 'What Happens in Vegas' producer Michael Aguilar for their Some Kind Of Garden media company.

Although details of the plot are yet to be confirmed, it is not believed to be related to the 1992 crime thriller of the same name.

The movie follows recent films by the writer which he has sold to major production companies, including the sale of opera-themed comedy 'The Three Tenors' over the summer, and action comedy 'Iron Jack' which is currently in development at Sony.

Although production has not yet begun, 'Deep Cover' is already being dubbed as a major movie for Red Granite - which was founded in 2010 by Joey McFarland and Riza Aziz - following Daniel Radcliffe's 'Horns' which was released earlier this year.
