All aboard the art bus! Museum of Design to embark on first national exhibition tour
Part of the new museum's national pre-opening campaign, the Design in Motion exhibition will tour more than 70 venues throughout Scotland. The initiative promises to bring the art to the people, with rural locations such as Harris, Campbeltown, Elgin and Galashiels in line for a visit alongside the likes of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen.
Launching in Dundee 13 Feb, the Design in Motion bus then sets off on its 17-week journey, visiting secondary schools and art colleges, museums, community centres and libraries with a final stop planned at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London in June.
Exhibits, designers and the V&A Dundee team will cross the country, connecting communities with Scotland’s design heritage and raising awareness of the talent in Scotland’s present-day design industries, inspiring creativity along the way.
Brought to life by Gabrielle Underwood, Design in Motion will showcase seven leading designers currently working with digital technology to push the boundaries of their discipline within games, product, jewellery, fashion, textiles and built heritage. These are confirmed as: Geoffrey Mann, Sophia George, Anarkik3D, Sara Robertson and Sarah Taylor, Lynne MacLachlan, the Digital Design Studio and leading fashion designer Holly Fulton.
