Award-winning director Michelle MacLaren has been confirmed by Warner Bros. as the director of the 'Wonder Woman' film, scheduled for release in 2017

Michelle MacLaren has been hired by Warner Bros. to be the director of the 'Wonder Woman' movie.

The Canadian producer - who is best known for her directing work on the TV drama series 'Breaking Bad' and hit show 'Game of Thrones' - will helm the DC Comics action superhero flick.

The film will solely focus on the Amazonian superhero following her introduction in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'.

Warner Bros. were always interested in a female director after first announcing the project and she beat several women, including 'The Babadook' director Jennifer Kent, to the job, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

MacLaren's first task is to work out a script with the writers for the film and decide how much of Wonder Woman's origin story as the daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus should be included.

'Wonder Woman' is currently scheduled for a June 2017 release and Gal Gadot will reprise the role from 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', out in March 2016.

Henry Cavill is back as Superman in the film, Ben Affleck portrays Batman, Jesse Eisenberg stars as villain Lex Luthor and Jason Momoa as Aquaman.
