Tilda Swinton's love defence

Tilda Swinton has defended her unusual love set-up

Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton has defended her unconventional love life.

The 47-year-old star - who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar on Sunday (24.02.08) - is raising her 10-year-old twin sons with their father, 67-year-old artist John Byrne, while at the same time romancing 29-year-old Sandro Kopp.

However, Tilda brushed off recent scathing attacks on her unusual love life, insisting all three were happy with the complicated arrangement.

She said: "I don't have a husband. I've never been married. I have children with someone else, with whom I'm bringing up my children. And I've lived with someone else, my sweetheart, for the last three years, and maybe it's extraordinary that we're really all friends.

"What is true is that John and I live with our children and Sandro is sometimes here with us, and we travel the world together. We are all a family."

Tilda - who wore a one-sleeved black dress to the ceremony - revealed she was stunned to win.

She added: "I'm still recovering from that moment, and I have absolutely no idea what happened after that. You can tell me my dress fell off and I'd believe you!"
