The Shore Bar and Restaurant in Leith has been taken over by the team behind near-neighbours Fishers, who hope to revive one of the district's more venerable eating, drinking and music spots. Fishers-trained chefs Jenny Daly and Martin Laurentowicz have been drafted in as head chefs to oversee a menu promising Gallic influences and featuring Shore Specialities such as brown onion soup, escargots, steak and kidney pie and braised organic lamb shank. The same food will be served in both pub and dining room, which are being upgraded ready for the re-opening of the venue on 10 April 2008.
The new acquisition by the Fishers team, who also run Fishers in the City on Thistle Street in Edinburgh's New Town, marks another development of the dining scene in the capital's former docks area following the takeover of Skippers and the Waterfront by John Tindal and Peter Knight, owners of A Room in the Town and A Room in the West End. While Skippers will continue trading under its old name the Waterfront is undergoing a refurbishment and will emerge as A Room in Leith.
