St Andrew's Day 2014 Scottish-wide celebrations revealed
Over 200 events planned including Nessie hunting, skiing, theatre performances and local cuisine tasting
People across the country are being encouraged to celebrate Scotland’s national day with a St Andrew’s Day Out. There are over 200 venues hosting special events throughout November.
Everyone can take advantage of a wide range of free admission, 2 for 1 and 'kids go free' promotions for a huge variety of attractions and activities. What better way to celebrate our national day than by enjoying the activities that Scotland has to offer?
Culture vultures will enjoy visiting House for an Art Lover in Glasgow or Edinburgh’s National Museum of Scotland, while outdoor enthusiasts can take in the best of Scotland’s scenery at Nevis Range or go Nessie hunting at the Loch Ness Centre.
Lovers of Burns can get up close with some of his original manuscripts and belongings at the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries, while budding scientists can investigate the cosmos at the Satrosphere in Aberdeen.
Sport activities on offer include swimming, skiing, surfing and mini golf, whilst there is also a huge range of one-off events covering literature, crafts, dance, theatre and history.
Following an action packed Day Out, why not carry on the celebrations with a St Andrew’s Night In? November is one of the best times of year to plate up something seasonally Scottish, with warming family favourite Scotch lamb in season. A hearty fish dish is also the perfect way to indulge in Scottish produce, taking advantage of Scotland’s wide array of seafood whilst paying a nod to Saint Andrew’s life as a fisherman, with delicious local recipes available.
