Nightmares on Wax
Featuring Autechre, Clark, Nightmares on Wax, Lone ft Konx-om-Pax and General Ludd
Launching in Bristol in 2011, this one-day electronic festival is now coming to Glasgow and down as an annual affair to get excited about. Matching international acts with the best of local talent, the focus is on darker, experimental live shows, with the line-up reading like a Warp fan’s Fantasy Festival spreadsheet. Here are our five highlights …
Autechre
Sonic visionaries or mad men with machines? When the Rochdale duo play, there is some hype, and rightly so: they created a whole new sound in 90s electronica. With their prolific back catalogue being released exclusively on Warp, this brand new live show has just been premiered in Krakow for the label’s 25th year celebrations, after which it visits Brussels, Utrecht and Glasgow. In other words: this is special.
Clark
Another brand new live show from an incredible Warp artist exploring the machine-meets-club, techno-as-sculpture route, but this time with mind-bendingly good oscilloscope visuals. Immersive, cinematic, an experience: search ‘Phosphor’ online for a teaser.
Nightmares on Wax
Another long-time-coming performance as NoW last played the city in 2006. They return with a full live band playing classics from the likes of Smokers Delight and Carboot Soul.
Lone ft Konx-om-Pax
The Nottingham hip-hop meets soft electronica artist teams up with Glasgow’s own Konx-om-Pax for a live a/v set showcasing his latest album, Reality Testing.
General Ludd
The result of two guys meeting at Glasgow School of Art and staying up through the night to make music. With the excellent Woo Ha / Brothers and Sisters 12” currently out on Mister Saturday Night, an intriguing live show awaits.
ABC, Broadcast and The Art School, Glasgow, Sat 1 Nov.
