Where to see bonfire night fireworks displays near Edinburgh 2017

A guide to bonfire and firework events in and around Wolverhampton 2017

What time do the fireworks start in Edinburgh, Fife and East Lothian

Whether you live in Edinburgh, or close by, this year there are more events than ever to help you celebrate Guy Fawkes' failed attempt to blow up the House of Lords. If you're in the city centre then head to the farewell Meadowbank Fireworks Concert on Sun 5 Nov, where gates open at 6pm and fireworks burst from 7.30pm. It'll be the last event of any kind at the old Commonwealth Games stadium, which closes for redevelopment on 3 Dec. Scottish Love in Action has three displays lined up this year, with a display at George Heriot's Playing Fields on Fri 3 Nov from 6.30–8pm, and two further displats at George Watson's Rugby Stadium on Sun 5 Nov, 4.30–5.35pm and 6.30–7.45pm. All three Lightastics Fireworks Extravaganzas will include pipe bands, costume parade by ECA, Edinburgh Mela Bollywood Dancers and Delighters Fire Circus Theatre.

For something a bit different in the city, you might also check out Samhuinn Fire Festival. Hosted by the Beltane Fire Society, the event celebrate the Celtic New Year in slightly anarchic fashion, with a parade, acrobats, costumes, fireworks and a huge bonfire. Takes place Tue 31 Oct from 9pm, at West Parliament Square. Read our Samhuinn Fire Festival explainer to find out more.

Outside of the city to the east, Haddington Fireworks Association Display returns on Sat 4 Nov (bonfire lights at 7pm, fireworks at 7.45pm), leaving you with the choice to attend both it and Aberlady Fireworks & Bonfire Night the following night, Sun 5 Nov. Even further out into East Lothian, the Yacht Club plays host to the North Berwick Fireworks Display, taking place 7.30pm on the harbour, Sun 5 Nov. Meadowside Field is the location for Aberlady Fireworks which gets underway at 6pm on Sun 5 Nov.

For something a little grander head west of the city for the stately Hopetoun Fireworks Display in South Queensferry whose celebrations take place a week earlier on Sat 4 Nov. A evening's worth of entertainment cultimates in the firework display, with this year's theme 'Fire and Ice'. Bring broomsticks for the wizardry and sorcery theme. Linlithgow Firework Night at the Rugby Club should also take up the West Lothian demand, it's display taking place Sat 4 Nov at 6.30pm. But if you're more of a cricket family, Livingston Cricket Club hosts a free display on Sat 4 Nov, 7.30pm (donations welcome).

Across the Forth Road Bridge, Burntisland Bonfire & Fireworks Display this year is on Bonfire Night proper, event kicks off at 6.00pm, bonfire lit at 7pm with added bonus of fairground rides to keep the kids happy. There's a welcome return of the free display at King George V Park in Crossford on Sat 4 Nov (donations welcome), fireworks take off from 7.30pm. Also on Sat 4 Nov there's the annual Dunfermline Fireworks Display in Pittencrieff Park with live bands on stage from 6pm and fireworks from 7pm.

Slight further north is Cardenden Community Bonfire & Fireworks Display on Fri 3 Nov with a torch-lit procession for children. Nearby Kirkcaldy Golf Club Bonfire Night Fireworks hosts its annual celebrations on the Sun 5 Nov, including a carvery and disco for old and young alike.
