A guide to the top music events this autumn

Ella the Bird plays at The Lighthouse Late

The Pleasance Sessions

The mini-festival continues with gorgeous Italo-synths and swooning, keening folk from Ubre Blanca and Two Wings (Thu 16 Oct), plus Glasgow’s excellent ‘proto-robo-folkers’ the Phantom Band and ambient vista-makers Remember Remember (Sat 18 Oct) promising to be belters.

The Pleasance, Edinburgh, until Sat 18 Oct.

To Rococo Rot

Spiritual descendants of Kraftwerk, Neu! and Can, the ever-changing, ever-creative Berlin trio (with the palindromic name) are back, now with vocals from Arto Lindsay who has collaborated previously with Animal Collective and Laurie Anderson.

Platform, Glasgow, Sat 18 Oct.

The Radiophonic Workshop

The pioneering electronic music / sound effects team from the Beeb (they did the Doctor Who theme, don’t you know?) come out of retirement due to popular demand.
The Art School, Glasgow, Wed 22 Oct.

The Lighthouse Late

We’ve teamed up with the Lighthouse for a night of soft, soothing folk from James Yorkston and Ella the Bird (formerly Siobhan Wilson) plus a screening of God Help the Girl and lots more.
The Lighthouse, Glasgow, Fri 24 Oct.

Simple Things

A truly excellent line-up featuring Autechre, Dean Blunt, Sad City and more.

02 ABC, the Art School and Broadcast, Glasgow, Sat 1 Nov.

Glasgow’s synth-poppers are just back from storming the States, Mexico and France and will be heading back into the studio soon for album two. They’re hell-bent on getting the Scottish crowds dancing first though.

Barrowland, Glasgow, Mon 3 & Tue 4 Nov; Corn Exchange, Edinburgh, Wed 5 Nov.

Future Islands

Expect OTT vocals and death-metal howls from Baltimore’s theatrical synthpop trio.

O2 ABC, Glasgow, Tue 4 Nov.

Glasgow-based electro pop trio touring in support of their second album Every Open Eye.

Future Islands

Joyous electro and synth pop from the Baltimore trio.

The Radiophonic Workshop

Musicians from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop perform the original compositions for television dramas from the late-1950s and 60s, including the iconic Doctor Who theme.

To Rococo Rot

The German post-rock and electronic trio perform tracks from their latest album Instrument. The band's name is a palindrome. Fun fact.
