Ray Winstone is to star in 'The Trials of Jimmy Rose'.
The 57-year-old actor will take on the role of the titular character alongside his 'Sexy Beast' co-star Amanda Redman as his wife Jackie in the upcoming ITV drama.
'The Trials of Jimmy Rose' tells the story of the notorious armed robber who, because of his life of crime, has spent more time in prison than with his wife Jackie, their children Jason and Julie and grandchildren Elliot, Ellie and India.
During his latest stretch in prison Jimmy's family have moved on with their lives after years of him taking them for granted, however, when he's released he'll be seen desperately trying to win back their respect and love as he attempts to turn his back on his life of crime.
Ray Winstone said of the role: "Alan Whiting has created and written a gift of a role. I'm excited to be playing him [Jimmy] and to be working with Amanda Redman. She's such a fine actress, and together with Adrian Shergold and the production team, I'm sure we'll be able to bring Jimmy and Jackie back to life."
The first two episodes of the upcoming three-part drama were written by creator by Alan Whiting while Dom Shaw wrote the third.
'The Trials of Jimmy Rose' - which is to be directed by Mad Dogs' Adrian Shergold while Jane Dauncey is set to produce - will go into production in the Manchester area in November.
