She told Time Out magazine: "Effy had been my only acting experience. I didn't know if I could do anything else. It's funny, I miss her a lot now."
The dark-haired beauty appeared in four series' and a one-off special of the teen drama, but despite playing the well-known character for several years, still felt blessed when she was offered the part of Catherine Earnshaw in the 2011 adaptation of the 1847 classic, 'Wuthering Heights'.
When asked if she felt her career was over when the hit TV show ended, she admitted: "A bit. I was so lucky to get 'Wuthering Heights'. It was such a different role. I was proving to myself that I could do it"
Since appearing in the period drama, Kaya has also been cast in science fiction thriller 'The Maze Runner' which the star confessed was difficult to film because she yearned for female company in the predominantly male cast.
She admitted: "Near the end, I flew my best friend out to Louisiana. It was actually fine. I've grown up around a lot of boys and lots of my friends are guys.
"But there were so many boys and I just needed some female company. I called her and I was like: "Bring me tampons and hairspray. I need you now."
'The Maze Runner' opens in cinemas on Friday October 10 2014.
