Sheridan Smith 'star-struck' by Cilla Black
Sheridan Smith - who stars as legendary entertainer Cilla Black in the upcoming TV mini-series 'Cilla' - admitted she was a bag of nerves when the pair went out for dinner
Sheridan Smith was left "star-struck" by Cilla Black.
The 33-year-old actress - who stars as the legendary entertainer in the upcoming TV mini-series 'Cilla' - felt completely in awe of the 71-year-old presenter and was overcome with nerves when the pair enjoyed a dinner together.
Speaking at a Q&A for the ITV drama at London's Soho Hotel, she said: "When you've watched someone that long - I've grown up watching her so I was in awe of her - whenever you're playing somebody, you kind of fall in love with them and you become obsessed with them because you're watching them everyday and reading their autobiography.
"So when we went to dinner I was really star struck and really nervous and I think I babbled away at her..."
Sheridan added that she feels a great deal of pressure to perfect her portrayal of the 60s singer as it an "honour" to be able to play her in the new drama.
She explained: "It's a huge responsibility because you just don't want to let them down and as far as the moments that might seem unsympathetic, I just think she was in a man's world and I just admire her strength.
"It was pressure but just an honour to play her because I'm a huge fan of hers."
