Load up with oil paints, stationery, sketchbooks and materials for lino prints, screen prints, sculpture and illustration in this Aladdin’s cave of art supplies, which offers 10% off for students. There’s a city centre branch opposite the Gallery of Modern Art, as well as one within the Glasgow School of Art.

A beautiful stash of rare, secondhand books just a few minutes walk from Glasgow university campus. Sci-fi novels, poetry anthologies, philosophy textbooks, literary criticism primers and antiques are all shelved here from about £2 and up, and there’s an online store too.

Down the excellent jumble and antiques trail that is Ruthven Lane (just off Byres Road in the West End), Circa Vintage has a small but always interesting collection of secondhand clothes, ranging from 90s leather backpacks, 80s sheepskin and leather jackets, 50s curtains, 40s costumes jewellery, menswear and more.
