Simon Cowell has revealed he will never get rid of the funny acts on 'The X Factor' because he doesn't want it to become boring

Simon Cowell says 'The X Factor' would be "boring" if all of the acts were good singers.

The music mogul is set to make his return to the ITV talent show after a three year absence - which he spent acting as a mentor on the US version - and he's revealed he has no intention to stop showing viewers the funny acts and auditions.

He said: "I think with the show, if you ever made it too serious and you just show the good auditions, it would be boring."

Quizzed on whether he would be including less serious singers to get back at former judge Gary Barlow, who wanted to ban silly acts, he added: "I think this show is at its best when you see the good, the bad and the ugly and we'd be lying if we just said that everyone who turned up was great.

"It would be a very, very different show. So no, it had nothing to do with Gary."

Meanwhile, Simon's co-judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini - who is also making her return to the show this weekend - confessed she sometimes feels "rude" laughing during bad auditions but admitted watching them makes the good acts really stand out.

Speaking at the 'X Factor' launch, she explained: "It makes you appreciate the really great ones when you see the balance of what we see all day."

Veteran judge Louis Walsh added: "And sometimes we just get loads and loads of good singers and then you wait for someone crazy to turn up and you absolutely love it."
