Johnny Marr's new album is "hyperactive".
The 50-year-old musician says the follow-up to last year's LP 'The Messenger' has been heavily influenced by his surroundings and he hopes it is a "bit different" to his recent efforts.
He said: "Most of it was recorded in London and New York, which has a direct effect on the music. I try to get influenced by my environment as much as possible. That's why I'm recording in London.
"It's got this hyperactivity to it that I wanted to put into the music. I wanted that bit to be different from 'The Messenger'.
However, Johnny has reassured fans he is not about to embark on any kind of "radical reinvention".
He added in an interview with NME magazine: "If anything, the new one is a bit more rowdy but I don't really want it to be too different.
"I like 'The Messenger' a lot and I don't think now is the time to go off on some radical reinvention just for the sake of it. That would almost feel too contrived.
"I haven't gone off anywhere with my yoga mat to meditate and take a deep look at my inner self to share with the world."
