Alan Carr is to host a new singing competition on Channel 4.
The flamboyant talk show host will front 'The Singer Takes It All', a live game show which will allow viewers to vote in real time for their favourite acts, rather than rely on judges like 'The X Factor' and 'The Voice'.
The summer series - produced by 'Big Brother' creators Endemol - will see contestants perform on a moving stage, which will shuttle them closer to the front of the stage if they receive a high number of votes, or push them back if they fail to connect with viewers.
Fans watching at home will vote in real time by pressing 'hit' or 'miss' on a mobile app.
But insiders claim 'The Singer Takes It All' won't be a traditional talent show like 'X Factor and is being envisioned as a game show, with the winner of each live episode winning a cash prize rather than a recording contract.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "This is a big new show for Channel 4. It is not being seen as a talent show like 'The X Factor' or 'The Voice' but more like a game show and with Alan presenting it is bound to be lots of fun."
Channel 4 bosses are hoping the ambitious format will bring in high ratings in primetime and have ordered four 90-minute episodes to air this summer.
Real time voting has become all the rage on talent shows across the world.
ITV will launch 'Rising Star' in January, which is based on a hit Israeli format. The show sees wannabe stars sing from behind a large screen which rises - allowing them to see the judges and the audience - if they get enough votes from viewers at home.
Pop star Kesha and rapper Ludacris are judges on the US version.
