Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort went undercover to watch their new drama 'The Fault Is In Our Stars' in moive theatres alongside members of the public.

Shailene Woodley snuck into a screening of 'The Fault Is In Our Stars'.

The 22-year-old actress decided to hide her recognisable crop under a long, curly wig so she could watch her new movie incognito over the weekend.

Hollywood newcomer Ansel Elgort also went unnoticed by fans as they hid at the back of a movie theatre with his co-star.

However, he blew Woodley's cover by sharing an Instagram photo of the pair of them in the car the night before.

He captioned the selfie, which he has now deleted: "Shai's amazing disguise to go see #tfios last night without causing a scene!"

Despite being a household name thanks to her performances in blockbusters 'The Descendants' and 'Divergent', it appears Woodley still loves a good bargain and won't fork out for extortionately-priced cinema snacks.

Elgort added: "Shai is bringing her own popcorn to #tfios hahahaha. So bootleg."

The tear-jerking romance was the big winner at the US box office over the weekend, grossing $48.2 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by John Green and centres around a 16-year-old cancer patient (Woodley) who falls in love with a boy (Elgort) after meeting him at a support group.
