Piven: New Mr Selfridge is best yet
Jeremy Piven claims the new series of 'Mr Selfridge' is the best yet.
Jeremy Piven claims the third series of 'Mr Selfridge' will be the best yet.
The 'Entourage' actor loves playing flamboyant retail entrepreneur Harry Selfridge, the inventor of London's iconic department store, in the ITV drama and believes the upcoming season is going to top everything the show has offered to date.
He teased during a TimesTalks London event: "I can honestly say this is the best one we've done, the stakes were higher. That's one of the great things about doing TV, you continually get the chance to dig a little deeper and do it right.
"I think we hit the ground running with this season, the action starts right from the beginning."
Jeremy has been seriously impressed with his experience of British television after years of filming across the Atlantic and says taking the role was a no-brainer.
He said: "When they sent me the outline, I was incredibly impressed on a number of levels. His life plays out like a Greek tragedy. He was a brilliant entrepreneur and a flamboyant, colourful man.
"British television, unlike US television, really maps out where they want to go, they had a real plan for where to take him for a number of years. It blew me away. I just thought I was incredibly lucky, especially after coming off of eight seasons of 'Entourage', I wasn't thinking about doing TV at all."
New mum Katherine Kelly won't be returning this year and Jeremy says the door is open for her to return once her baby daughter Orla is old enough.
He added: "Everyone's back except for Katherine Kelly, unfortunately, who's in Australia [after having a baby]... I hope we have her back at some point."
Jeremy was speaking in conversation with International New York culture editor Julie Bloom at the first ever TimesTalks London event last week.
