Family tree: Scotland's psych / folk / stoner / doom metal scene

Music Family Tree

Featuring The Cosmic Dead, Skullwizard, Sunsmasher, Trembling Bells, Eierbal and more

Interstellar psych explorers The Cosmic Dead play Doune the Rabbit Hole this August. They’re one of many Scottish acts with fingers in many musical pies, sharing their talents among various projects (Skullwizard, Pyramidion, Sunsmasher to name a few). But do you ever find this musical bed-hopping hard to follow? As part of a new regular thing, we’re mapping out the local music scene, one sub-genre at a time, to show the cross-pollination and collaborations at work. This time round it's Scotland's perhaps unexpectedly interrelated psych/folk/stoner/doom metal scene.

(NB: Space doesn’t allow this to be 100% comprehensive, but feel free to add your comments in the section below, about any omissions, personnel changes, web links, new side-projects etc. It's also worth noting that, due to their collaboration-friendly nature, some artists will also link in with other instalments in the Music Family Tree series, so you should check those out too.)

Excellent article, I have a friend in the USA that presents "The Soggy Bog Of Doom", an excellent US podcast, and he is looking for Scottish stoner/doom/sludge bands for a special show if we can get enough material! Of Spire and Thrones have featured before amongst others. Bob (host) would love bands to record a promo for the show if possible. Material and queries can be sent to the shows Facebook or Podomatic page. Have a listen to his latest episode, and get your band to exposed to the US and further afield for free! Featuring GIANT MONSTER ATTACK from Edinburgh!
