Producer MK set for UK and European dates
US producer Marc Kinchen embarks on European dates
The mainstream is a fickle mistress. What’s popular one year may be considered outdated the next. But while trends come and go, house music seems to be the one constant, whether in its traditional format or disguised as something else. It’s something Marc Kinchen, aka MK, is well in tune with. Having released a string of classic cuts during the 90s, he’s been prevalent as both an underground and mainstream producer, working behind the scenes with the likes of Will Smith, Jay Z and Beyoncé.
‘There were politics and opinions involved,’ he says of his time producing pop’s biggest and brightest. ‘People are always telling you what to do, which is why I personally love making dance music. As much as my experience has helped me become a better producer, freedom is an important motivator for me.’
Taking a break from commercial production, a few years ago MK returned to the studio and to what he loves most: house music. Working on his own terms, he was signed for a series of remixes, hitting a high note with ‘Storm Queen’, which went straight to no 1. Now firmly in the driving seat, he’s arguably the most productive he’s ever been, throwing himself into DJing in order to take his sound to the masses.
‘I’ve played a few times over the last ten years, but didn’t really start DJing until three years ago, so it’s still a fresh experience for me,’ he explains. ‘I look at touring as if I’m bringing my studio on the road and I’m so fortunate to get to play and feel the reaction of the crowd now. It’s a huge buzz.’
