Ray Winstone will star in the remake of 'Point Break' opposite Luke Bracey and Gerard Butler in the remake of 1991's 'Point Break'

Ray Winstone will star in the remake of 'Point Break'.

The 'Noah' actor will play Luke Bracey's partner, Agent Angelo Pappas, which Gary Busey famously played in the 1991 original, according to Variety.com.

Bracey will take on the role of FBI agent Johnny Utah and join Gerard Butler who has been cast as Bodhi - roles which were previously played by Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze respectively.

The original tale tells the story of an FBI agent who forms an unlikely friendship with a leader of a surf-gang, after being tasked with investigating a string of robberies.

In a new twist, 'Point Break' - which references the surfing term where a wave breaks as it hits a point of land and splashes from the coastline - will be updated from a surfer-scene setting to the world of extreme sports.

The film will be helmed by 'Invincible' director Ericson Core with Kurt Wimmer - who penned 'Salt' and 'Total Recall' - on board to write the script.

Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove are producing with John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Wimmer.

Adrenaline junkie Johnny (Bracey) joins the FBI and is put on the trail of the Robin Hood-ish Bodhi (Ramirez) and his gang of stunt-performing merry men. Pointless remake of Bigelow's fondly-remembered 1991 original, with neither subtext nor characterisation, and stunts that resemble adverts for energy drinks.
