The [Future] King Of Scotland - I’m Not Angry, It’s Just You Broke My Heart
(Lo-Fi or What?)
This Fife-based, one man band claims to lead a lo-fi life, and from the sounds of his charmingly ramshackle debut offering he’s not lying. I’m Not Angry, It’s Just You Broke My Heart features vocals so muffled, guitars so scratchy, beats so minimal and lyrics so maudlin that they make Malcolm Middleton seem overproduced and on top of the world.
The subject matter ranges from profanity-ridden, social commentaries on British life to broken hearts and his ‘special friend’ god, and although The [Future] King Of Scotland makes for far from easy listening at times, as tracks switch time signatures and structure mid-singalong, perseverance proves that there is indeed an extraordinary talent at work here.
