Abba - The Album (4 stars)

Abba - The Album

If you’re tired of Abba, you’re tired of life, basically, so this deluxe re-issue of their most ambitious album is extremely welcome. Originally released in 1978 when the band were at their creative and commercial peak, The Album blends their trademark pop genius (‘Take a Chance on Me’ and ‘The Name of the Game’ among others) with sumptuous ballads, quirky sounds and full-on rock, all of it dripping in melodious majesty. This reissue comes with some intriguing foreign versions and remixes, as well as a fascinating DVD of TV performances, live footage and interviews which put the extraordinary worldwide Abba phenomenon of the late 70s in context.
