Greta Gerwig is set to star in a 'How I Met Your Mother' spin-off.
The 'Frances Ha' actress has signed up for the lead role in CBS' new sitcom, 'How I Met Your Dad', which will follow a similar format to its predecessor.
'How I Met Your Mother' - which airs on E4 - is set to end in April after nine seasons and Craig Thomas and Carter Bays have begun work on the spin-off.
Greta will play Sally, a restless New Yorker who decides to separate from her husband after less than a year together. With her close-knit group of friends and family around her, Sally embarks on a journey to find her true love - the eponymous father figure.
In addition to starring in the show, TVLine.com reports Greta will be a producer and occasional writer if the sitcom is commissioned for a full series.
The pilot script is being written by Craig and Carter, as well as Emily Spivey, who previously wrote Christina Applegate-starring sitcom 'Up All Night'.
Other characters still to be cast include Sally's brother, her brother's husband, her best friend who runs a fashion blog, and an IT technician who works on the blog and has a crush on Sally.
