Although it might not look it, February is quite an important month for summer music festivals. The January slump is finally over, and people have proper spending money again for the first time this year. It's still freezing outside though, so those same people will be looking into the future for fun things to spend it on – and the idea of summer, regardless of how damp the reality may turn out to be, is still warming enough to have folk reaching for their wallets.
All of which should go some way to explaining why you've seen an increase in festival line-up announcements recently, with organisers competing to get punters shelling out for their particular party in the sunshine. Bestival recently revealed that Foals, Beck, Disclosure, Major Lazer and London Grammar will be joining already-announced headliners Outkast in September, while Arctic Monkeys were announced just this morning as headliners at Reading & Leeds Festivals (joining Blink-182, Jake Bugg, The 1975, Metronomy and SBTRKT). Last week, the Isle of Wight Festival unveiled Red Hot Chili Peppers as their exclusive headliners, with Calvin Harris, Biffy Clyro (pictured) and Kings of Leon already on the bill.
With all that in mind, we've gathered together some playlists featuring artists from six of the main music fests this year (seven if you count Reading and Leeds as separate entities). Watch and listen to the selection below if you need any help deciding which fest is gonna get your hard-earned cash this summer – or, if you've already settled on which fest you're attending, simply get in the mood for it with some great tunes.
