Forest Whitaker is in talks to join 'Taken 3'.

The 52-year-old actor is set to star alongside Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace in a third instalment of the popular franchise, according to deadline.com.

Neeson is said to have been offered $20million to reprise his role as protective dad Bryan Mills, while Grace is expected to return as his daughter, and Famke Janssen looks set to portray his ex-wife once again.

Olivier Megaton - who directed the second film - is in the director's seat, with plans to begin filming in March.

Meanwhile, Luc Besson and his writing partner Robert Mark Kamen have set to work on the script for the new movie.

The action-packed original 2008 film, directed by Pierre Morel, followed a retired CIA agent on a mission to save his daughter who was kidnapped during a trip to Paris and and grossed more than $226 million worldwide.

While 'Taken 2' was critically panned, it was popular with viewers and the 2012 sequel proved a box office hit, grossing $374 million worldwide.

Bryan Mills (Neeson), ex-CIA operative, arrives at his apartment to find his ex-wife (Janssen) dead and himself framed for the crime. The third instalment of this increasingly creaky franchise feels as dozy as a pensioner in the midday sun; the fights and pile-ups are fine, but the characters are almost an afterthought.
