William Roache insists he's not a predator
'Coronation Street' actor William Roache insists he is not a sexual predator, but admits he did cheat on his first wife Anna Cropper
William Roache insists he is not a sex predator.
The 'Coronation Street' actor, who is currently standing trial for historic sex offences against young girls aged 16 and under, admitted to cheating on his first wife Anna Cropper in court yesterday (28.01.14) but says he is not a paedophile.
Quizzed if he was ever unfaithful to Anna, he told Preston Crown Court: "No, I was not, I'm sorry to say.
"There was a period in my marriage which was not as fulfilling as it should have been and I did have a series of relationships with people. I was looking for relationships."
However, the 81-year-old star - who plays Ken Barlow in the long-running ITV soap - categorically denies any improper relations with underage girls.
He added: "It wasn't gratuitous sex and certainly not with underage people.
"[It's] totally against my nature to harm anyone in any way whatsoever."
William also denied knowing the alleged victims of the crimes he is accused of, including two counts of rape and four indecent assaults against underage girls between 1965 and 1971.
The actor's barrister Louise Blackwell QC quizzed him: "Do you have any memory of being in the company of any of the people that have made the allegations against you?"
William replied: "No, not one of them."
The trial continues.
